Amy received her law degree from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland in 1996 and began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Donald F. Johnson in the First Judicial Circuit Court of Maryland in Cambridge, Dorchester County. She was the Deputy State's Attorney for Dorchester County until 2002 when she moved back to her home state of Illinois and clerked for the Honorable Margaret Stanton McBride of the First District Appellate Court. In 2003, Amy joined the Kane County State's Attorney's Office where she became the supervisor of the Special Prosecution Unit, trying, among other specialized cases, elder abuse, arson, and white collar crime. In her tenure with the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, Amy has provided training to community groups on identity theft and other areas of public concern. She has also provided numerous trainings to police officers on search and seizure laws and updates on the changing law of narcotics crime. Amy was with the Civil Division of the Kane County State's Attorney's Office from 2007 to 2013. In that capacity, she defended the Kane County Sheriff's Office, deputies and corrections officers in a variety of suits in state and federal court, including excessive force and conditions of confinement. Amy is a 1989 graduate of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where she graduated with a double major in English and Broadcast Journalism.
