GALE PHELPS AWARD

Bruce M. Pennamped was the recipient of the Indiana State Bar Association Family and Juvenile Law Section 2005 Gale M. Phelps Award.

The Gale Phelps Award is named in honor of Gale M. Phelps, a former Chair of the Family and Juvenile Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association and one of the most active members of the Section. She was instrumental in creating the Family Law Specialist Certification status in Indiana.

Gale's death in May 2003 caused members of the Section to pause on her tremendous impact on the practice of family law in Indiana. The Section decided to recognize Gale's contributions in an on-going manner by annually honoring an attorney who has worked to elevate the standards of professionalism in the area of family law. Factors considered in the selection of the recipient reflect Gale's contributions in an on-going manner by annually honoring an attorney who has worked to elevate the standards of professionalism in the area of family law. Factors considered in the selection of the recipient reflect Gale's contributions to the Family Law legal community and include exceptional service to the profession, highest level of competence, improving the profession, raising the level of professionalism and civility in domestic relations matters and demonstrating high moral character and ethical standards.

PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION

Bruce M. Pennamped's practice is limited exclusively to Family Law. Mr. Pennamped received his B.S. in 1970 and J.D. in 1972, both from Indiana University. His career accomplishments include: Certified Family Law Specialist-Family Law Certification Board; Co-Chair; Indiana Family Law Certification Board; Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an organization which requires as a condition of fellowship, demonstrated ability in Family Law matters, a minimum admission to the bar of ten years and 75 percent specialization in matrimonial law. He serves on the Indiana Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee, a committee created by statute to make recommendations to the Indiana Supreme Court on the Child Support Guidelines adopted by it and on other items relating to the welfare of a child of a family no longer intact. He is a pro bono volunteer and attorney for the Hamilton County Guardian Ad Litem Program, and has served as Majority Attorney for the Indiana House of Representatives. Bruce is the past chairman and executive committee member of the Indianapolis Bar Association's Family Law Committee.

He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and American Bar Association. He has served as participant and on numerous panels and authored many texts for Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum and is included in The Best Lawyers of America, Swarthmore's Who's Who in American Law. Bruce holds an AV rating from Martindale & Hubbell and was voted Indiana Super Lawyer 2004 by the Law & Politics and the publishers of Indianapolis Monthly.
