Mr. Schwemer is a principal at OFW Law. He was born in Grosse Point, Michigan, and received his B.B.A. in 1989 from James Madison University and his J.D. from the Ohio Northern University School of Law in 1992, graduating with distinction. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1992 and the District of Columbia Bar in 1995. He is currently a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
Mr. Schwemer concentrates his practice in regulatory and enforcement matters before the Food Safety and Inspection Service, the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Schwemer also counsels clients regarding compliance with food safety and labeling requirements of the Food and Drug Administration. He has spoken extensively on a variety of meat and poultry inspection, food safety, food labeling, and FSIS, GIPSA and FDA enforcement issues and is a certified HACCP trainer.
Before joining OFW Law, Mr. Schwemer served as a Case Agent for the FDA's Special Prosecution Staff, which assisted the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore in investigating and prosecuting companies suspected of violating FDA laws and regulations. This experience gives Mr. Schwemer special expertise in providing advice regarding government compliance investigations that could lead to civil enforcement actions or criminal prosecution under laws administered by FSIS, GIPSA, APHIS, or FDA.
