Kelly Hooper is an associate at Burkett & Burdette.  Kelly brings a unique perspective to the firm.  Like President Abraham Lincoln*, Kelly read the law.  Rather than attending law school, Kelly was a Rule 6 Law Clerk.  As a clerk Kelly worked full-time as a paralegal and in her spare time, and with the assistance of her mentor, Lee Burdette, Kelly studied the law on her own.  The program is a four year program and is operated by the Washington State Bar Association.  By the time she sat for the Bar exam Kelly had been a paralegal for over 8 years.  In fact, Kelly’s entire legal career has been with Burkett & Burdette.  After successful completion of the Bar exam, Kelly was admitted to practice law in December 2011.

Prior to joining the firm Kelly worked as the Project Director for The Washington State Community Action Partnership, which is a non-profit organization working on behalf of 30 non-profit agencies across Washington helping low-income individuals and families.  Kelly earned her paralegal certificate as well her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington.  Kelly majored in Political Science and Communications with a minor in Women's Studies.

During her time with the firm, Kelly has worked on a variety of matters, including medical malpractice, motor-vehicle collisions, premise liability, wage and hour disputes, contract disputes, insurance bad-faith claims and consumer protection violations.  Kelly has assisted in numerous trials, conducted arbitrations, fought several trials insurance adjusters, and stood by the side of many clients to the resolution of their cases.

Kelly is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, King County Bar Association (KCBA), the Young Lawyers Division and the Washington State Association of Justice (WSAJ).  She currently serves on the Public Affairs committee for WSAJ, the Lawyer Referral Service for the KCBA and is a volunteer for the King County Family Law Mentorship Program.

Kelly was born and raised in the Seattle area.  When not working she loves to travel, run, participate in triathlons and spend time with her husband on their boat.

J. M. Brockman, Esq.
Dear Sir: Yours of the 24th. asking "the best mode of obtaining a thorough knowledge of the law" is received. The mode is very simple, though laborious, and tedious. It is only to get the books, and read, and study them carefully. Begin with Blackstone's Commentaries, and after reading it carefully through, say twice, take up Chitty's Pleadings, Greenleaf's Evidence, & Story's Equity &c. in succession. Work, work, work, is the main thing. Yours very truly
A. Lincoln
