Brian Tackett was born on a military base in Bossier City, La., in 1971. After being stationed at various military installations around the world, Brian's family settled in Willow Park, Texas.

After graduating from Aledo High School in 1990, Brian entered the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. While attending the University of Texas, Brian worked at Mithoff & Jacks, LLP, a personal injury law firm with a national reputation. It was there where Brian developed an interest in the law.

In 1995, Brian began attending the Texas Tech University School of Law. Brian chose Texas Tech because of the practical nature of its curriculum and great reputation for developing attorneys with the ability to practice law rather than attorneys adept at legal theory. While at Texas Tech, Brian participated in mock trial, moot court and other competitions geared toward developing real-world attorneys. Brian graduated from Texas Tech with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1998.

Brian began his career as an assistant district attorney in Denton County, Texas, where he rose to the rank of chief prosecutor. While at the DA's office, Brian acted as lead counsel in hundreds of trials, both misdemeanors and felonies, and began developing his reputation as an aggressive trial attorney.

In the fall of 2000, Brian began working at Berry, Byrne & Randall as a medical malpractice defense attorney. He handled dozens of cases, learned the complicated legal and factual aspects of civil litigation and learned many skills that he applies to his practice today.

On Jan. 2, 2002, Brian founded the law firm of Tackett Legal, P.C. At that time, the firm concentrated its practice on family law. On July 1, 2010, Brian joined the law firm of Hayes, Berry, White & Vanzant, LLP as the head of the Family Law section of the firm. Today, Brian Tackett's practice focuses entirely on family law.

Brian Tackett is a partner with the law firm of Hayes, Berry, White &Vanzant, LLP. He is the head of the family and criminal law sections of the firm. Brian’s practice has been built on an ever expanding referral base. He receives referrals from other lawyers, politicians, and most importantly clients.

I emphasize a strategy that lessens resentment and hostility and focuses on creative problem solving, goal setting for the future, and preserving dignity. I work hard with and for my clients to achieve their goals. It is crucial to determine what is most important for my client but to also figure out what is important to the other party or attorney. More often than not, by being creative and thinking outside the box, we give the other side something they desire without giving up anything that is important to us.

I am first and foremost a trial attorney. Much of my skill and craft were honed as a criminal prosecutor in the Denton County District Attorney’s office. I have spent countless hours in the courtroom advocating for my clients. But I recognize there may be a cost for taking the case to court. A client once told me, ‘Sometimes a bad settlement is better than a good fight.’ This is a true statement. While I am always courteous and professional in the courtroom, I expect intellectual honesty and for my questions to be answered.  If the other party does not abide, he or she will not feel good about the experience. My concern is that the stress and resentment that the parent feels in court will exacerbate hostility toward the other parent. My clients will not be bullied. But in each case, my client and I will consider all of the benefits, risks and consequences associated with our decisions.

I love my job, but I recognize that my clients come to me during the most trying times of their lives. The steps we take together can be the difference between easing or undermining the transition into the next phase of life.
