Pearlman, Harvey R.

I have been a lawyer for 45 years. I attended Rutgers University on scholarship and graduated in 1963 with a major in history. I then went to law school at Rutgers Law School in Newark and graduated in 1966.

In January 1967, I enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and was on active duty until July 1967. I received an Honorable Discharge in 1972 after having served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 6 years.

In 1972 I was admitted to the New York University Law School masters degree program in Taxation and after going to school at night for five years, I received my Masters degree in Taxation from NYU Law School in 1977.

I was admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 1966. In 1967 I became a staff attorney with Newark Legal Services Project which provided free legal services to people in Newark who could not afford a lawyer. Thereafter, I became an associate attorney at a labor law firm in Newark. In 1969 I joined Friedman, Kates & Uscher and became a partner in 1973. That firm later became known as Friedman, Kates, Pearlman & Fitzgerald. In 1985 I became certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney and was recertified in 1992, 1999 and 2007.

I live in Teaneck with my wife, who is a special needs teacher for pre-kindergarten children. I have lived in Teaneck for more than 35years. I have a grown daughter and two grandchildren. My wife and I have belonged to the same synagogue in Teaneck for 36 years.

I "work out" regularly at a gym in Teaneck and jog 2 miles every morning. When I am not preparing for a trial, I spend my weekends with my family. We take our grandchildren for weekends once a month, and on other weekends my wife and I go to Manhattan for dinner and a movie.
