A native of Colorado, I was born in Trinidad and later moved to Lamar, Colorado where I graduated from high school. While in high school, I became the youngest licensed disc jockey in the State of Colorado at age of 15 1/2 years.
I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where I received a Bachelor's of Science degree from the School of Business. My major was Finance and my minor was in Real Estate.
I then attended the University of Denver College of Law where I received a Juris Doctorate degree in December, 1973. While attending Law School at night, I worked full-time at the Arapahoe County District Court House in Littleton, Colorado as a Law Clerk/Bailiff for Richard D. Greene from 1971 to 1974. This provided a unique opportunity to be able to observe the law in action in court on a daily basis while studying at night.
After being licensed, I was an Assistant Attorney General from 1974 to 1977, assigned to the appellate section. I handled exclusively criminal appeals and extradition matters for the Governor of the State of Colorado. As a result of a unique circumstance, I argued over 200 appeals before the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals.
I entered private practice in 1977. I was a member of the law firm of Branney, Griffith & Hillyard. During that time, I devoted my practice entirely to personal injury and professional negligence involving medical negligence matters.
In 1979, I joined the law firm of Lee & Marturano, P.C. where I remained for four years. During this period of time my practice included general litigation in addition to personal injury litigation. General litigation involved commercial litigation, domestic relations and probate litigation.
Since 1983, I have owned and operated Thomas J. Tomazin, P.C. located in the Denver Tech Center. My practice during this period of time has been all civil litigation with exclusive emphasis since 1992 for personal injury and professional negligence involving medical, dental and legal negligence.
From 1977 to the present, I have been a member of the American Association for Justice, formerly American Trial Lawyers Association, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the Arapahoe County Bar Association.
I have been a Board of Director of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association from 2004 through the present. I have been a Board of Director for the Arapahoe County Bar Association from 1995 to the present. During that same period of time, I have been the Chairperson of the Speakers Bureau. I was elected and held various positions as an Officer of the Arapahoe County Bar Association including President from 2010 to 2011.
In my spare time, in the past I enjoyed running including several marathons. More recently, I have become involved with road bicycling including several week-long tours. I enjoy downhill skiing, travel, cooking and music. My four older sons are age 30 to 38. My youngest son who is age nine keeps me actively involved in many pursuits!
