Louis Touton has more than 25 years of experience representing companies involved in all forms of patent disputes, emphasizing in internet, communication, computer, and other electrical technologies. He has handled trial and appeal of lawsuits concerning patent infringement, validity, and damages; reexamination and interference proceedings in the United States Patent and Trademark Office; assessment of patent rights and exposure, including preparation of opinions; licensing of patents, trade secrets, and know-how; and litigation of license disputes.

His representations include DIRECTV in a variety of patent infringement lawsuits concerning satellite and digital-television technology and Texas Instruments in patent infringement and licensing disputes concerning semiconductor fabrication, packaging, and design. From 1999 to 2003, Louis was the initial general counsel of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, and in that role he crafted basic documents that define relationships of governments and commercial and noncommercial organizations that coordinate the internet's technical operation.

He is a frequent speaker on patent-related topics and has testified on the protection of intellectual property issues in the internet domain-name system before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property.
