Jonathan Leiken, a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, represents public and private companies and individuals in significant government investigations, complex civil lawsuits, and at trial. He conducts internal corporate investigations on behalf of boards of directors and senior management and has defended clients before a wide range of investigating government agencies including the Department of Justice and the Securities & Exchange Commission.
Jonathan has extensive experience representing financial institutions, manufacturing companies, and other large and small organizations, and their executives and employees, in government inquiries and civil litigation involving allegations of financial misdealing, improper accounting, insider trading, regulatory violations, government contract fraud, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He also counsels clients on the development and maintenance of effective compliance programs.
During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, Jonathan served as first-chair trial and appellate counsel in numerous federal criminal matters. Upon returning to his hometown of Cleveland, Jonathan was appointed by the mayor of Cleveland to serve as an independent investigator in an inquiry involving alleged corruption in the Cleveland Police Department.
Jonathan is active in the Cleveland legal and business communities and serves on the board of trustees of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and as an adjunct professor of law at Case Western Reserve Law School, where he teaches "white collar crime: prosecution and defense." Jonathan has been named a "rising star" by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine and was featured in Crain's Cleveland Business' "40 Under 40."
