William D. Ware, is a partner and heads the Criminal Department at Maynard, Truland & Ware, LLC.    Mr. Ware attended Drew University as an undergraduate and obtained his law degree from Vermont Law School in 1988.

Thereafter, Mr. Ware served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Essex County , New Jersey for 5 years.  Subsequently, Mr. Ware entered private practice concentrating in criminal defense matters.  In 2001, Mr. Ware joined Maynard & Truland, LLC.

For nineteen years Mr. Ware has been involved in either the prosecution or defense of serious criminal cases ranging from narcotics charges to sexual assault and murder cases.    The criminal department developed a considerable body of experience and case representation accomplishments involving Megan's Law and Community Supervision for Life matters.  Mr. Ware has also coached in the New Jersey High School Moot Court Competition in Union County and has taught classes at Seton Hall School of Law.

In addition to representation of serious criminal matters already being prosecuted in Court, the firm frequently undertakes pre-charge representation of individuals who are the suspect or target of a criminal investigation, but who have not (yet) been formally charged with a crime.  Through careful counseling and representation of pre-charge clients Mr. Ware has been successful in helping a significant percentage of pre-charge clients avoid being charged with a crime.  For those persons who are charged with a crime, Mr. Ware is known to be a highly competent and aggressive defense attorney.

As both a prosecutor and defense attorney, Mr. Ware has tried over (100) trials.  Some of his cases have received legal notoriety and coverage by the media.  Just a few of Mr. Ware's notable trial victories are:

State v. Joseph White ( Bergen County ):  The Principal of Teaneck High School was charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Result:  Acquitted at trial.

State v. Douglas Hickman ( Somerset County ):  The defendant was accused of molesting an (8) year old girl.

Result:  The jury in that case did not convict the defendant.

State v. Courtney Johnson   ( Essex County ):  The defendant was charged with murder.

Result:  All homicide charges were dismissed.
